Anyone out there being treated for Chronic fatigue syndrome?
Hi I was just recently reading up on CFS and I realize now that I may very well have it. I have a lot of the symptoms… Fatigue all the time, horrible insomnia, waking up feeling awful and unrested, chronically depressed, muscle pains, flu sick feelings. I was wondering how are you being treated for it because right now im on Prozac for severe depression, social anxiety disorder, and OCD. I’ve heard that anti-depressants are supposed to help with this disorder so I was wondering what treatment are any of you on for this?
hmm I don’t know about that seeing as how this is been going on for 6 months and I am a dude! haha
Firstly - sorry to hear you’re feeling crappy.
You do seem to have several of the classic CFS symptoms although Fibromyalgia (FMS) is also very simular - Muscle pains being one of the ‘main’ symptoms of FMS. As with CFS there is no one test you can have done to diagnosed it but a judgment is made based on symptoms alone.
Amitiptyline (an anti-depressant) is prescribed quite a lot for these types of illness as they can help regulate sleep as well as helping with the depression. NSAID pain killers are usually giving for pain relief unless you have any stomach complaints.
Talk to your GP about the likelyhood of this being CFS or FMS - lots of hospitals run courses for suffers which are a fantastic places to get some tips on living day to day, excersise, sleep etc.The people that run the FMS website are also a get source of information.
Hope I’ve helped somewhat…

it sounds like you might be pregnant. you need to get check your belly for a little tiny heartbeat… or take one of those pregnancy alert system tests.

I have the same symptoms, but it was all stress related. You shouldn’t be quick to jump to the conclusion that it is CFS. People with CFS often have really bad immune systems and catch every bug going, and just don’t have any energy. Some literally cannot get out of bed, it’s just too much effort. You should go to a doctor and see if it is CFS - there are no tests for it, but they can rule out anything else - and then work on how to help. There are no ‘treatments’ as such - my friend has it and has been bed-ridden for over a year.
