What are the similarities/differences in bipolar depression and chronic fatigue syndrome?
Both appear to involve possibility of oversleeping, fatigue, memory loss, etc.
No connection at all! Depression maybe, but not Bipolar Disorder.
The symptoms of depression can include fatigue, loss of interest in previously pleasurable activities and suicidal thoughts, but not memory loss especially.
Bipolar disorder swings repeatedly from depression to mania over a period of days to months, with racing thoughts, hypersexuality, decreased need for sleep, grandiosity, excessive risk taking and delusions and hallucinations.

Bi-polar - sometimes angry, bad moods, then EUPHORIA kicks in and they think they have all the answers in the world and everything is WONDERFUL then they hit rock bottom. Chronic fatigue - excessive tired, muscle aches, lack of interest in everything because it takes too much out of them physically and emotionally. If there is no EUPHORIA then I would suspect chronic fatigue. Depression is easier to resolve health wise tho!

They are hard to distinguish even for a trained professional
Plus, while bipolar is often high and low periods (so called manic depression) there is a subtype called double depression that is just two different types of depression (low to low) cycling that is nearly indistinguishable from chronic fatigue
Plus, some hormone and thyroid conditions can cause similar conditions
Talk to a Doctor (preferably a psychiatrist) and express your concerns
