Does any out there have fibromyalgia and and have troble getting pain meds?
Does anyone out there have fibromyalgia? I moved from one state where my doctor gave me my pain meds every month,I moved to illinois and can’t find any doctor to help ,What is up with Illinois Doctors?I’ve been to six alredy and they all say the same thing "we don’t fill presriptions for vicodin" And I have my records I have been them for three years.Does anyone else have this problem?
Yes, I have the same problem. I have to be driven back to Texas, all the way down by Mexico once a month. They have been busting Dr’s over pain medicine scripts, many Dr’s just simply refuse to write them. There was a huge article on yahoo yesterday regarding this matter.
I’m sorry, your going to have to drive back to your state and get your scripts filled. I would move back to where ever you came from.
You could always continue paying Dr’s to tell you NO, but I think you see what’s going on here.

Yes, I do. However, I will also say that there are better medications on the market for Fibro than Vicodin. I highly recommend that you start looking A) in a larger town than yours. There are some very good docs in the Chi-town area. B) Look at alternatives to what you’ve used before. There are natural therapies, suppliments, other pain meds available. Since Fibro is a problem with the body having a hard time processing its toxins, massage therapy and hydro therapies are two of the BEST things you can do to help your symptoms–whereas sleep meds, pain meds etc only cause more problems because they are processed out of the body slower than a normal person’s toxins are processed. Thus the buildup in the muscle tissues is part of the pain cycle. C) try stretching exercise like Yoga, Tai Chi and Callenetics. They are excellent for helping you retain flexibility and having more patience in dealing with those high pain, high fibro-fog days.

Vicodin and other pain medications are not the best option for treating fibromyalgia. You need to see a doc that specializes in the treatment of fibromyalgia and start fresh. Your last doc wasnt doing you any justice by prescribing you narcotics meds. Are you taking anything else? SSRI’s, anticonvulsants, muscle relaxants??

This isn’t an answer about getting pain meds. Which, considering what you are on, is probably due to it being a drug that is often abused and doctors just don’t want to deal with situations that they haven’t been involved with from the start and know the patient. Too many people out there abusing, selling, etc this type of pain medication. I have a cousin who was recently diagnosed with fibromyalgia and put on a non narcotic medication called Lyrica. She said she couldn’t live without it, and is on no "pain medication", with rare flare ups at this point. I don’t think this drug has been around long and I had a doctor recommend it for me because he felt I had myofascial pain. Which if I do is just one small part of my condition, so I didn’t want to go on the med. He suggested another one to take with lyrica, called cymbalta. Which along with mood adjustment works with nerve related pain. Good luck.

. It could be that the new dr wants to get to know you better. Perhaps you could have your previous dr. email or fax your medical history to the new dr. Talk to your new dr about this and then go from there.
I have had fibro for over 12 yrs. I take Guaifenesin for my fibro. You have to learn how to take the med properly for it to work on fibro. Here is a book you need to get either from a library or you could get it at ebay or amazon cheaper than a bookstore.

It is not a cure and it is not a pain
med but it has allowed me to stop taking prescription pain meds. I used to take them constantly. Check it out.
